Peace Boat is a globally renowned Japanese cruise ship that has been organizing round-the-world voyages for over 30 years, serving more than 90,000 travelers. Each journey spans over 100 days and accommodates up to 2,000 guests. The cruise offers a mix of enriching shore excursions, exciting onboard entertainment, and high quality dining. However, managing such a large group and ensuring smooth communication has always been a challenge. |
The Challenges of Round-the-World Cruises
Onboard the cruise, avoiding communication barriers and ensuring every passenger can easily and efficiently enjoy the guided tours became an urgent issue. To provide an exceptional travel experience for all, Peace Boat was committed to finding the best group tour solution. They sought to use innovative technology to move beyond the traditional "follow the guide" approach, offering more flexible and enriching experiences. This would enhance the overall value of the cruise package.

Tour Guide System to Improve Tourist Experience
In March 2024, Peace Boat partnered with Retekess to introduce the TT116 Tour Guide System, bringing a series of innovative solutions. The system proved invaluable in quiet environments like the ship’s theater. Tour guides could clearly communicate with passengers through the equipment, promptly sharing important details or providing commentary. The system’s transmitters feature both microphone and AUX inputs, allowing for background music that aligns with the theme of the performance during pre show and intermission times, creating an immersive experience for the guests.
During shore excursions, where large crowds often make communication difficult, the TT116 with noise reduction technology allowed Peace Boat's professional guides to deliver clear explanations. The guides could share rich, detailed stories, immersing guests in the culture and history of each destination. The 200-meter signal range also gave passengers the freedom to explore independently without needing to stay close to the guide, significantly enhancing their experience. This flexibility allowed guests to appreciate the sights and gain knowledge in a more comfortable and personalized manner.
The TT116 system also supports up to 50 separate tour groups using the headset system simultaneously, without interference. This feature enables multiple tours to take place at the same site at the same time, maintaining order. Additionally, the system's one-touch pairing function simplifies the connection between transmitters and receivers, reducing the preparation time for guides and increasing efficiency.
The introduction of the TT116 system significantly enhanced the value of the experience for Peace Boat guests, especially during shore excursions where they enjoyed more personalized and interactive service. In February and August 2025, Peace Boat expanded its equipment, purchasing an additional 2,000 receivers and 10 transmitters to meet larger-scale demands.
This collaboration demonstrates how advanced technology can transform traditional tourism into a memorable adventure, ensuring guests return with lasting memories and a deeper understanding of the places they’ve visited.
