Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is one of Asia's leading research universities, ranked 12th in the world in the 2022 QS World University Rankings. Its Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information frequently organizes international academic conferences, lectures, and seminars, attracting participants from around the globe who speak different languages. This linguistic diversity presents a major barrier to effective information delivery. To ensure all attendees can understand the content, especially in large venues or noisy environments, an efficient simultaneous interpretation system is essential. |
Challenges and Solutions
In addition to the language barrier, large academic conferences often last for several hours and involve large numbers of participants (e.g., 240 people listening to the translation at the same time). In lecture halls or large conference rooms, attendees sitting in the back or in areas with poor sound quality often struggle to hear the original audio clearly. Therefore, the simultaneous interpretation system must have long battery life and wide coverage (such as reaching the back of the auditorium or areas with poor acoustics).
To meet the needs of NTU, Retekess provided a stable, durable, and easy-to-operate simultaneous interpretation system solution. The system setup includes:
·2 Retekess T130P wireless transmitters (1 for backup)
·240 Retekess T131P wireless receivers
·2 Lavalier microphones
·240 single-ear headphones
·242 USB charging cables
·242 lanyards
·8 charging stations with 32 slots
The system is intuitive and quick to set up, supporting automatic channel pairing. Before the event, hundreds of devices can be synchronized and ready to use in no time. The T130P simultaneous interpretation system features a long transmission range of up to 160 meters (525 feet), perfectly covering large lecture halls and conference venues. This ensures that attendees in every corner of the theater receive stable, high-quality audio signals. Each receiver has independent volume control (0-10 levels), allowing users to adjust the sound to their personal comfort level.
Additionally, the T130P system uses intelligent noise-canceling technology to effectively filter out background noise, such as the hum of air conditioning and crowd chatter. Even during noisy interactive sessions, attendees can hear clear and pure translation through the receiver and single-ear headphones.
Implementation Results and Value
With the help of the Retekess simultaneous interpretation system, international lectures and conferences at NTU's Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information have achieved truly seamless communication. Students, faculty, and scholars from diverse linguistic backgrounds can equally and instantly access knowledge. This has significantly enhanced the depth and breadth of academic exchange, solidifying the school’s position as an international academic hub.
